MLS recap

Bostrom writes: Since George just got the DirectTV MLS package and Fritz is buying up Fire tickets left and right, I'll have to work harder to keep my title of "MLS guy" this year. And I will.

I hope they continue to stream games on mlsnet.com or else I'm in trouble. I actually would rather watch out-of-market games on the computer as it allows me to do other things on my iMac. Even though it's a three inch by three inch window (or thereabouts) it really does give you the ability to follow a game. From watching mlsnet.com, I became partial to Real Salt Lake games...I was fascinated to watch why Mathis' career had gone south so quickly. And believe me, he can still play. But not for 90 minutes...maybe 10 or 15 of those 90 are quality.

The Revs and The Galaxy came rushing out of the gate this past week with 0-0 thrillers in their Champions Cup openers. To me, the Champions Cup makes about as much sense as the World Baseball Classic. I mean, how can you get quality play so early in the season (for MLS teams)? Obviously, this year, you can't. Hopefully it will improve.

This week: The National Team takes to the field in Kaiserslautern on Wednesday. Great idea to schedule a friendly in the stadium of one of first three WC games. Can only help everyone get comfortable with the town, the stadium and the field.

Hopefully Marcelo Balboa picks up his game in the WC homestretch. It looks like he's a lock for the broadcast team, but I wish they'd give him some competition.
