Doubleheader

I've just celebrated this first weekend of MLS action by watching the second of today's two nationally televised matches. I also took in both of the Final Four games so if you're wondering if I'm on vacation...yes, I am! And I have found time to talk to my family as well in case you're worried.

The L.A. Galaxy and New England Revolution showed why The Home Depot Center is the premier venue in Major League Soccer. The two teams put on a good show in that intimate setting, in the first half at least.

There were plenty of marquee players to watch but when Marcelo Balboa twice compared Clint Dempsey to Ronaldinho, I put the hype-o-meter on overdrive.

Back to reality, Tyrone Marshall will break someone's leg this year. I'm not joking...that guy is one tough defender. But he won't break Taylor Twellman's leg as Tyrone can just stand him up easily every time. Say goodbye to an meaningful Germany minutes, TT. Maybe as a defensive midfielder you'll find work at the international level

As the game started to drag on in 2nd half, Landon Donovan finally got moved into midfield space by a slow-to-react Steve Sampson but it was too little, too late. Cobi Jones has lost most of his quickness and NE defended too well. Daniel Hernandez and Joey Franchino would both fare well in a street fight.

In the end, these two teams seemed to be as out of shape as Big Baby. Well, no one could huff and puff like the big man fom LSU, but there will be much better soccer as the weeks roll by. I vow to watch no tv tomorrow! (Bostrom)
