Believe it or not, I believe that this photo has made some new soccer fans in America. Many avowed soccer haters think that it’s a sport played by wussies who aren’t talented enough to play more “American” sports and who constantly feign injuries in order to curry favor with the referee. When these people have seen this photo, they can’t help, but rethink some of these preconceived notions.

I realize that this is a reach as far as theories go, but if you think about how many times this image has been seen or replayed since Saturday’s game, it’s only natural that people gain a new respect and appreciation on how tough footballers are. (George)
