O'Brien to MLS?
Reports have it that John O'Brien is done in Holland and will be joining an MLS side. Read all about it at Yanks Abroad here.
Odd timing, now that ADO Den Haag has only 5 games left in the Dutch season, Johnny feels its time to announce that he will not be returning. He reportedly also let it leak that he has been in discussions with an MLS squad. I'm not sure how his contract works, but my assumption is that since he is still under contract, he will not be allowed to sign, practice or play with an MLS team until the Dutch season is over.
If he is truly healthy, why is he not back training with ADO? Perhaps he feels that his best shot at getting ready for the World Cup is to train with one team and not have to adjust his routine for ADO and then whichever MLS team he winds up with. I can't see any MLS team demanding JOB alter his fitness routine as a condition of inclusion with their squad.
Or maybe he is afraid of another injury? I know US fans are.
So where will he end up? As a Fire fan, I hope it's Chicago. However, since JOB is a Californian, I'm afraid it may be Chivas. What do you think?

I think this was the last day (figuratively and literally) that JOB could declare himself fit and get a serious look from Arena. If he was planning to move to the MLS, why wait until the MLS preseason is half over? The proof will be on the field. It's hard to imagine that he'll get out of his contract in Holland, suit up for an MLS side and then start to dominate play and shuffle off to Germany. Four years ago that would have been easy, but the last four years have given me little hope that he can actually produce fo rthe U.S.
I'm sure that ADO will allow him to terminate his contract w/o much of a penalty, especially if they have no desire to resign him. Why keep him around?
I'm excited that he's going to be with MLS. He's been in Holland since he was 16 which is almost half of his entire life so he's probably happy to return to the States. He has a lot of great experience which will help the younger players on whatever team he ends up with.
He's a unique US player as he doesn't have unbelievable physical skills, but he more than makes up for with his technique as well as his feel for the game. MLS can only benefit from a player of his quality
Will he have enough time to earn a spot in Germany? Tough to say, but he's a known commodity and if he's able to prove himself fit in a very physical league like MLS, he'll be on the squad. (George)

Rumors have JOB going to the Metros, er, RedBulls. They could use some offensive punch. However, the turf at Giants Stadium might not be good for his fraile legs. There's also a rumor that the RedBulls will install sod for all of their games ($$$) so who knows what will happen next. (Bstrm)
